Keeper provides commissioners with different methods for mitigating the impact of the mid-season bye rounds. One of the most popular options is to "Apply Season Averages".
How does "Apply Season Averages" work?
For each bye round where this setting is enabled, we first calculate each player's average points (or stats for category leagues) over the course of the season.
Then, for any player who has been started in fantasy matchups (or played as an emergency), these average stats or points will be applied as if the player had earned them in a match during the current round.
When do bye players become locked?
At the start of the first game of the round (Thursday night). Once the first game starts, all players who are on a bye will become locked in lineups and will be unable to be moved.
Think of it as if these players were playing in the Thursday night game – they have a score and therefore are locked into place, regardless of the lineup lockout time you have (e.g. First game, First Sat game, Rolling lockout).
Will players who are currently injured still score?
Yes. All players whose team is on a bye will earn their average stats/points, regardless of whether they are currently healthy, injured, suspended or retired.
What about players who haven't played yet this year?
If a player hasn't played a game yet, they won't have an average or therefore a score. These players are treated as if they did not play (DNP) in the round and will be eligible to be replaced by an emergency in lineups, the same way any player not named to play would be.
Despite not receiving a score, these players will still lock at the start of the round.
Can we exclude injured players from receiving scores?
No. At the moment we don't offer the ability to customise whether injured players can be excluded from receiving scores during the bye rounds, however in future seasons we will look to expand the bye round settings to be more flexible around how injured players are treated.
However, if your league has upgraded to Pro or Ultimate subscription, your commissioner can use the "Edit Match Results" tool to adjust team totals at the end of round if you've decided to use a different treatment of injured players in bye round scores.
How do you round up/down player averages?
In Points leagues, we round season average to the nearest full point. So a player averaging 94.3 points will be rounded down to a score of 94. Similarly, a player who averages 78.5 will be rounded up to 79 points.
In Category leagues, we round player stats to their nearest full number. So a player who is averaging 1.6 goals will be rounded up and awarded 2 goals, and a player who averages 10.4 kicks will be rounded down to 10 kicks.
Percentage categories, such as goal kicking accuracy and disposal efficiency, are calculated on the back of the player's underlying stats being rounded.
For example: a player averages 10 disposals at .760 efficiency = 7.6 effective disposals per game. In bye rounds their total disposals (10 -> 10) and effective disposals (7.6 -> 8) are first rounded, then efficiency derived from there (8/10 = 0.800).
Can I captain a player and get double points?
Yes. Bye round players are treated like any other player who play on Thursday night and their score will double if you've named them captain.
Does this mean I'll know stats & scores ahead of time?
Yes. Using the various filters you can see what a player's season average is, so it's straightforward to see how many points they will earn for you in their bye week. Once the round starts we will calculate their average stats and matchups will be updated to display these so you can follow matchup scores live.
We want to use a different method for applying scores to bye round players, what can we do?
If you'd like to apply a different set of logic to what we offer, leagues who have upgraded to a Pro or Ultimate subscription can manually calculate team scores and use the "Edit Match Results" tool at the end of the round to adjust team totals and results.
